I have an M.D., but never practiced medicine. I have been tutoring junior high- and high school kids in math, science, and some English for several years with various franchises and small companies, while following my wife here and there while she is pursuing higher medical education. Am I “behind in the game”? How do I increase my “stock”/chances? (I’m thinking of teaching anatomy and physiology to nursing and allied health students. I considered going back to school to get certified for teaching math and/or science on the secondary level, but I can’t afford it.)

I am 15 weeks pregnant. We went yesterday to the ob. The nurse said the doctor would ask if anyone in our families had any nuero tubular diseases or downs syndrome, so I was thinking he was going to finally talk to us about our family history. I am under the assumption that every doctor does a full family history so they know what tests need to be done. But no, he didn’t even ask about what the nurse had mentioned. Just gave me a paper and said there are 5 chromosome tests that I have to go get done next week. So I asked about the family history and he said that he wasn’t planning on doing one. So what, he just throws a dart at a spinning board and what it lands on is what test I have to get done? Has anyone else in your office heard of this?

Well, it is that time of year again, and I am being asked to put togethere the proverbeal Christmas Wish list from my mothere in law. She has a wild sense of humor, and normally, I am able to come up with anything to make her laugh. I have looked the net over and over for days to find a very fake, very creative, and very funny christmas list for myself(nurse) and husband( US Active Marine).
I get tired of being asked to make one each year, so I thought I would send a funny one, but I have a blank mind, and no resources on the net to find any….
I want SEVERAL, and by SEVERAL, I mean at least 20, each. I know thats a lot, so do not attempt it if its too much for you.
SHe is a pastor, she lives in MD, and had 4 kids….

I am a sophomore in high school, but am in an advanced school where I get an associate’s degree as well as a high school diploma when I graduate (for free! ). This girl has a history of PTSD, and a mother who has a history of giving her attention inappropriately for factitious medical ailments. Now she is in my residential program, and has been chronically complaining about various minor medical problems. When she doesn’t get the attention she feel she deserves she can become encopretic and assaultive. I have argued with the nurse about providing her access to first aid equipment so that she can minister to herself. I am worried of course about creating a dependency on these things, and that she will continue to up the ante and desire more and more intrusive medical interventions. However, nothing else has really worked, like non-reciprocation or validation. This is really the most effective way to get attention and she is loathe to give it up. I have tried these paradoxical interventions with adults but never with anyone so young. Does anyone out there have experience with such a patient? I have found nothing online.
